This book became one of my favorites from the first few pages. I think it's no secret that I love soft, cute, and fairytale like books, and this book fits all of those descriptions. It was a very original book, with unique characters, places, and world. Caz was the perfect companion to Kiela, and they had me smiling as I read about them adjusting to island life after being more or less secluded in the library. It was very heartwarming to read about characters who to me felt like they shared my own struggles with socializing and friendships. The friendships in this book were one of my favorite parts, especially the Pine Cone Coven. The idea of a group of women getting together to have jam and make something cute and beneficial (the pine cone spells) together made me appreciate my own friendships myself. I've surprised myself this year, I've made a friend that reads and we recommend and discuss books together, I've made another whose navigating academia with me, and a third who offers advice and insight. All of them are women, and it's made me realize how valuable friendships between women are.
The setting was a small island with fruit trees, woods, cliffs, and magical wildlife. It made me want to move to an island (one like Prince Edward island).
The book got me out of a reading slump, and reinforced my love of the cozy fantasy genre. I hope you guys enjoy it like I did!
