Wish Life Away

I've always been an imaginative person, daydreaming and getting wrapped up in my own thoughts. Sometimes, it's easy to spend a lot of time in our own heads, thinking about what was or what could be. I know I'm not the only one who struggles to be in the moment, since there are so many different ways online that encourage us to practice mindfulness and live in the present. What I notice the most in people is the "when I" statements. When they have that degree, when they have that house, when they travel to that place, etc. People will be happy, satisfied, feel accomplished, when they achieve whatever it is that they've made their goal. It seems like they're wishing life away. They're wishing for places, material possessions, certain relationship status, and all sorts of things that they don't have in the present moment. They're not happy now, but they will be when they have that thing they're chasing. It's great to have goals and ambitions, and to want to improve, but make sure you see what you have around you right now. Happiness or life satisfaction is not a destination or goal that can be reached, it's a state of mind. Wishing and pining for things and goals that you haven't reached yet constantly can lead you to ignore the blessings you already have. Make sure you appreciate the life you're living and enjoy the process of becoming the person you dream of being.
